Global environmental studies indicate that we are facing the risks of transformation and permanent changes in the environment and in its ability to support and enhance human life in all its dimensions. This state of imbalance places great responsibility on the architect and planner at the present time.
Nowadays, the concept of sustainable architecture has spread, which is concerned with the natural physical surroundings of the environment and recommends architectural and urban practices that do not harm the environment and reduce the environmental impacts resulting from various human activities and calls for the reduction of waste and pollutants and energy saving.
In our Arab and regional surroundings, the environmental conditions were one of the most important tributaries that formed the Islamic architecture, which prompted the Muslim architect to innovate in creating appropriate solutions to confront the environmental problems of high temperature and the provision of natural lighting and others.
The research deals with the study and analysis of some methods of achieving sustainability in Islamic architecture through the elements and vocabulary of the Islamic architectural formation, which are the inner courtyard, wind catcher, Mashrabiya and the idea of their work and how to take advantage of these elements in contemporary architecture to provide environmental solutions that are compatible with the climatic changes that the world is witnessing now.
The research is based on the analytical study of contemporary experiences of using these elements to confront climate changes through some local and international projects.
